November 2019 Newsletter: Are You a Bucket Face?

To start things off Susana and I would like to thank Dr. Todd and Linda Frisch for their outstanding presentation last week at our SHAPE Warrior Event. Current and future SHAPE Warriors enjoyed learning the background to SHAPE and why they are detoxifying, feeling better than ever, and losing the weight they have struggled with in the past. They were also treated to a demonstration of Dr. Todd’s amazing Facial Analysis technique. More on that later in the newsletter.

We have talked in the past about the unique features of SHAPE ReClaimed® – one of them being the urinalysis. From the urinalysis we learn about hydration and mineral balance. One essential mineral is sodium which we can get from salt, but not any salt. The SHAPE program recommends a minimum of ½ teaspoon of Celtic Sea Salt®. Read below why.

We have mentioned in past newsletters how we love to learn new information, how it enriches our practice and ultimately provides benefits to our clients. We are fortunate that we are able to meet leading practitioners like Dr. Todd and Linda Frisch. Not only have they developed the SHAPE ReClaimed® program, but Dr. Todd along with his daughter Abbie have developed their own facial analysis technique. We are pleased to announce that we are now offering this service. More details below.

A little teaser – we are already in discussions to bring Dr. Todd back in the Spring for a presentation on facial analysis.

Pass the Salt, Celtic Sea Salt® That Is!

To pass the salt or not to pass the salt, that is the question.  This is another example of nutrition confusion. First, we will address why we need salt and second why Celtic Sea Salt® is the best choice.

Let us start with the key difference between salt and sodium.  Salts are natural combinations of minerals containing sodium and other minerals. Sodium is essential to life.  It is critical for the health of every cell in the body. Sodium is a key part of the fluid between the cells.  Along with its partner potassium, the two minerals balance the nutrient and waste exchange of each cell.  Sodium is also in our blood, our lymphatic fluid, and is required for the production of hydrochloric acid so we can digest our food.  Sodium is involved in nerve and muscle functioning where it again teams with potassium.  It also maintains our body’s fluid balance, electrolyte balance, and pH balance.

As evident from above we need sodium and it is preferable to consume it in a healthy manner.  Food sources of natural sodium include vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, fruits, fish, poultry, eggs, milk, and meat.  Unfortunately, most of the population obtains sodium from refined table salt or sodium added to processed foods.  These are unhealthy forms of sodium because they have been stripped of all the naturally occurring minerals. In table salt all that remains are sodium and chloride.

Are You A Bucket Face? Introducing Facial Analysis

As mentioned above we are pleased to announce that we now offer Facial Analysis. In summary, facial analysis is a technique to understand health and personality. There are nine face shapes. Most people are of one type, but some are a combination. The face shapes indicate general characteristics. What is most interesting is looking at the right and left side of the face independently. The Right side is the public persona, the outer expressions, and related to female or women in the life. The Left side is the inner self, the private self, and related to male or men in the life.

From the face shape we move on to the face map and specific markings (such as lines, redness, puffiness, etc.) on the face. Each part of the face refers to specific organs and is a way to identify areas of stress in the body. Through the identification of these marks areas of health concerns can be identified and addressed.

The last part of the analysis is looking at 22 specific characteristics (including eyes, ears, nose, mouth, chin, forehead, etc.) that correlate to personality traits.

Putting it all together provides an overall picture of health and personality. Utilizing the SHAPE ReClaimed® program and muscle testing a plan to improve and enhance total health can be developed.

Sign up now for your Facial Analysis with a special introductory offer of $100. Call or email to set up your appointment.

On SHAPE, First Time in 33 Years No Cramping On Cycle

While we have been hearing consistently from our SHAPE clients that they feel better, have less pain and inflammation, this was a first for us and very welcome testimonial:

“I have been on the [SHAPE] drops for 7 days as of today. I had a menstrual cycle for the last 33 years every month with significant cramps at a point that was not able to tolerate them without Tylenol or Ibuprofen for the first 2 days every month.  This is my second day of my cycle and had not need any medication.

🙏🏼🥰🙏🏼🥰🙏🏼🥰” S.S.

To make matters worse, during the manufacturing process it is chemically cleaned, bleached, and heated so high that the chemical structure changes.  Anticaking agents are added so the salt will not mix with water when in your saltshaker.  This is fine in the saltshaker, but not in your body as the refined salt does not dissolve and combine with the water and fluids in our body.  This creates build up in the body and leaves deposits in tissues and organs leading to health problems such as hypertension (high blood pressure), calcium deficiency, osteoporosis, fluid retention, weight gain, headaches, stomach ulcers, and stomach cancer to name a few.

A major myth regarding sodium and salt is that a low salt diet is healthy. In fact, recent scientific evidence indicates that such a diet may actually be harmful. Here is an excerpt from a study by McMaster University, May 21, 2016:

“A large worldwide study has found that, contrary to popular thought, low-salt diets may not be beneficial and may actually increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and death compared to average salt consumption. The study suggests that the only people who need to worry about reducing sodium in their diet are those with hypertension (high blood pressure) and have high salt consumption.” You can read more about the study here:

So, why is Celtic Sea Salt® the best option? Human health depends on the abundance of the vital minerals found naturally in ocean salt. Among other functions, minerals help us assimilate vitamins and nutrients into our cells. Celtic Sea Salt® includes, as nature intended, a spectrum of naturally occurring, essential minerals. Nothing is removed from the natural salt and nothing artificial is added to it. This salt supplies the body with vital trace minerals and elements, along with the proper balance of sodium chloride. The unique combination of natural minerals in Celtic Sea Salt® is made up of natural electrolytes that give your body a “positive electrical charge”.

Ocean water contains 70 minerals by most reliable testing. Celtic Sea Salt® contains 78% NaCl (sodium chloride) and 12% of ocean minerals and moisture. Other leading sea salts such as Redmond RealSalt and Himalayan Pink Salt are closer to 98% sodium chloride.

Celtic Sea Salt® has a naturally occurring, trace amount of iodine. It’s approximately 0.68 parts per million. Though iodine an important mineral component, sea salt is not considered a significant source of it. Yet sea salt is an all-natural, pure source of iodine that is quickly absorbed and stored by your body!

A salt labeled as “iodized” typically means that iodine was chemically added to the salt, possibly using an artificial additive to bind the iodine to the salt. The Celtic Sea Salt® Gourmet Seaweed Seasoning contains 350 mcg of iodine per ¼ tsp is a natural answer. It’s a truly natural, iodine-rich sea salt.

As a side note, “Celtic” indicates the French origin of this salt. It is pronounced “kel-tic.” Celtic Sea Salt® is a family-owned brand that was started in California by the founder Jacques Delangre in 1976. Celtic Sea Salt® was originally sourced from the coast of Brittany, France and is now sourced from there plus the coastal regions of Europe, Guatemala, and Hawaii. While other salt companies may sell their salts for less, Selina Naturally® guarantees that their salts are wholesome, unrefined, quality-certified and Kosher.

Light Grey Celtic® is the trademark for their coarse, moist salt, which gets its light grey hue from the mineral rich, pure clay lining of the salt beds from which it is harvested. This color is the result of the way the salt crystals look when they are first harvested. Allowing the Light Grey Celtic® to remain in its brine-rich state accounts for its unique and inviting moistness.

Salt is not naturally free-flowing and dry, which is a manufactured attribute. At Selina Naturally®, Fine Ground salt is created by traditional methods, which include drying the salts at a low temperature, instead of overheating it, keeping it raw, and then grinding it finer for convenience. These careful steps result in a salt that is more nutritious than table salt, yet similar in appearance, but without any additives!

Celtic Sea Salt® will last for an indefinite amount of time, because salt is a mineral, not an organic substance. So, it doesn’t spoil. On the contrary, salt is a natural preservative. For example, it’s one of the ingredients used to preserve ham. If you study your history, you will learn that salt was one of the most prized possessions in earlier times as it was necessary for food preservation. The term “salary” originates with salt!

The company’s motto is, “The Secret is in the brine.” The moisture in Celtic Sea Salt® is not just water, but a mineral-rich brine, which is lower in sodium chloride and higher in beneficial minerals and elements. The brine inclusions are within the natural Celtic Sea Salt® whole crystal, which is the reason Celtic Sea Salt® is alkaline when dissolved in water.

One last note about salt – many people crave it.  That may be an indication that your adrenal glands are stressed out, meaning you are stressed out.  According to Chinese medicine salt cravings are a sign of too much sugar or alcohol in the diet and the body’s way to come back into balance.  Sometimes salt cravings can be a warning for oncoming hypertension.

We carry the following products in the office: Celtic Sea Salt® with Grinder, Celtic Sea Salt® Fine Ground Shaker, Refills of Coarse and Fine Ground Salt, Garlic Salt, Seaweed Seasoning, and Herbes de Provence. Stop by for a free sample of the fine ground Celtic Sea Salt® or pick one up at your next office visit.

This month’s newsletter also asks the question, “What if Béchamp was right?” This may lead you to the question, “Who is Béchamp?” More likely you have heard of Louis Pasteur. The two of them were rivals back in the day. Pasteur believed in the germ theory of disease. Béchamp pursued the terrain theory of disease. Pasteur’s views won the day. Today we live with the repercussions of their great debate. See below for more information.

Why SHAPE ReClaimed®? How Did So Many People Become Overweight?

As you are aware, being overweight is a major health issue. If you are overweight, you have a significantly greater risk factor for many health issues and chronic diseases. More than 60% of the US adult population is overweight. Being overweight significantly increases risk for a variety health issues and diseases and results in increased health care costs for those affected.

So, why do we gain weight? The answer is quite simple and probably not a surprise to you. It starts with our food – we eat too much, we eat the wrong proportions, we eat food that is bad for us, and we eat poor quality food. Let me explain what I mean by too much, wrong proportions, bad for us, and poor quality.

To read the remainder of the article click here: How Do We Get Overweight?

Being overweight is a major health issue. If you are overweight, you have a significantly greater risk factor for several health issues including breathing, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, gallstones, Type 2 diabetes, gout, high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease, sleep apnea, pregnancy difficulties, and cancer. Notice these are among the leading causes of preventable and premature death.

What if Béchamp Was Right?

“What if Béchamp was right?” This may lead you to the question, “Who is Béchamp?” More likely you have heard of Louis Pasteur. The two of them were rivals back in the day. Pasteur believed in the germ theory of disease. Béchamp pursued the terrain theory of disease. Pasteur’s views won the day. The germ theory has thus been the basis for all modern medicine since then. We encourage you to read these with an open mind. As with many of these controversial topics it is most likely that the truth is a combination of both viewpoints.

To learn all about their debate click here to read the article on the Weston Price Foundation web site: Germ vs. Terrain

There is also an excellent book on the subject by Nancy Appleton, PhD called The Curse of Louis Pasteur. Click here for more details: The Curse of Louis Pasteur

There are some who claim that Pasteur on his death bed said that Béchamp was right, whether that occurred is quite controversial. You can read about that here: Did Pasteur Recant?

Your Weight and Your Health – How Do We Get Overweight?

This is part of a two-article series exploring the critical relationship between our weight and our health. This article explains why we gain weight and the second looks at the negative consequences to our health from being overweight.

First, our portions have become crazy! Everything is “supersized.” We eat too much and too often, ingesting substantial amounts of excess calories. Between meals and snacks, we are feeding our bodies without giving it time to rest. Eating less frequently is the basis for the intermittent fasting programs for weight loss of which I have written previously.

Second, we eat the wrong proportions. The typical diet contains way too many carbohydrates and sugars. These cause increases in blood sugar and ultimately insulin levels leading to fat accumulation. In addition, the typical diet does not contain the amounts of nutrient-full and healthy fats and proteins that we need.

Third, we eat food that is bad for us. Our diets contain way too much sugar and trans-fats. There are many disagreements about what constitutes a healthy diet, but there is no disagreement that sugar and trans-fats are unhealthy.

Fourth, the food we eat is of poor quality. The typical diet contains many highly processed foods. These foods are made to taste good while having little nutritional value. In addition, much of the soil has been depleted resulting in vegetables of significantly lower vitamin and mineral content than in the past.

Some foods are known for causing a higher incidence of reactions such as allergies or sensitivities. The best known is gluten. However, dairy, eggs, soy, and corn are also very common. Reactions to food causes cellular fluid retention or “false fat” and creates cravings for these foods. The reaction is an inflammatory response, inflammation brings water to the location. Take away the inflammation and the water goes away. I have seen many clients drop 5-15 pounds in a few days just due to food sensitivities!

While food is the main driver for weight gain there are other contributing factors: chronic stress, insulin resistance, hormone imbalances, hypothyroidism, neurotransmitter imbalances, lack of sleep, or overall toxic burden.

After food, chronic stress is the next major factor. I have had several clients who eat a very clean diet but can not loose weight to a major stress in their life. The reason is that when we are stressed it raises our cortisol level. High cortisol promotes fat storage and increases the likelihood of insulin resistance.

Insulin resistance blocks fat burning and keeps higher level of insulin in the blood. These two factors tend to go hand in hand. Those with high insulin levels will have elevated cortisol and those with elevated cortisol will have high insulin causing fat to be stored and weight gain.

Excess cortisol lowers the steroid hormone DHEA. One of DHEA’s many functions is fat burning. Other steroid hormone imbalances also cause us to gain weight. Imbalances of estrogen and progesterone in women promote fat storing. Low testosterone in men and women reduces the ability to burn fat and build muscle. High estrogen in men promotes fat storage. High progesterone in women promotes insulin resistance.

Low thyroid hormones (hypothyroidism) will promote weight gain as muscle building and metabolism are slowed leading to conditions of general low energy and fatigue. Neurotransmitter imbalances can cause cravings and inappropriate eating behaviors.

I have written previously of how important sleep is to our overall health. Lack of sleep, particularly over a long period of time will increase cortisol, create sugar cravings, lower thyroid function, lower energy, and increase appetite.

An overall toxic burden will disrupt the pH balance in the gut, blood, and tissues. This can slow the metabolic rate, disrupt the absorption of essential minerals and disrupt hormone receptor sites creating hormone imbalances.

Most weight loss programs measure the pounds lost and are successful in the short-term.  However, that is only part of the picture.  Soon after the program is completed the weight begins to come back on.  The reason is that the underlying behaviors and lifestyle have not changed.  With the metabolism slowed from dieting and a return to prior habits, the pounds quickly come back on.

The best program for long term health and vitality will be one that addresses your individual needs.  It may take some time to get the body back on track.  The body has built-in healing mechanisms and with proper nutrition and healthy behaviors the body will heal.  As the body heals you will lose fat and weight.

Newsletter August 2019: Your Weight and Your Health

Your Weight and Your Health

Our past few newsletters have featured introductory information about SHAPE ReClaimed®. Why is this? Over the past thirteen years we have helped many clients resolve long standing health issues such as poor digestion, hormone imbalances, headaches, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, rashes, and excess inflammation. Weight loss frequently occurs as a natural result of improving bodily function and reduced systemic inflammation. However, addressing and maintaining weight loss of over 20 pounds often provided a challenge. Until recently we did not have an answer for that – now we do with SHAPE ReClaimed®.

We have realized that all the work we have done for our client base is wonderful. Many of our clients come to us engaging in relatively healthy lifestyles, they eat well, they exercise regularly, but they have this one issue that they cannot resolve. We have assisted numerous clients in figuring out these complex issues.

What about those who just want to lose some weight? We admit, not everyone wants to take a bunch of pills and tinctures! And that muscle testing stuff sure seems strange! We have concluded we can provide service to these people by simply helping shed their excess fat and lose weight. My wife Susana, a Registered Nurse, has joined me at the clinic to focus exclusively on this and providing individualized support and care.

Why is this important for so many people? Being overweight is a major health issue. If you are overweight, you have a significantly greater risk factor for many health issues. These include: breathing, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, gallstones, Type 2 diabetes, gout, high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease, sleep apnea, pregnancy issues, and cancer. You will notice that most of these are the leading causes of preventable and early death. The feature article below provides more details.

Along with introducing SHAPE ReClaimed® in the office we are excited to announce that we will have available several SHAPE ReClaimed® approved products to support clients during the program and are also very healthy for the everyone! You can read about these products below.

Your Weight and Your Health

Many health experts believe that our country is now amid an obesity epidemic. According to the CDC’s latest official statistics 39.8% (93.3 million) of US adults are obese (37.9% for men and 41.1% for women); and 17% of children and adolescents aged 2–19 years are obese. In general terms obesity means you weigh at least 20% more than what is ideal for someone your height, often because of body fat. In addition, it is believed that 63.8% (149.6 million) of US adults are overweight (this includes the obese). These numbers have been rapidly rising since the 1970’s and are expected to continue on that trajectory.

The categories of normal weight, overweight, obesity, and extreme obesity are determined by the BMI (body mass index) measurement. To learn the specifics of this click here: https://www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/assessing/bmi/index.html

Let’s further explore the health issues related to obesity:

Breathing – Your larger body may prevent your lungs from expanding fully, and your breathing muscles may not work as well, so you can’t take enough air in. Inflammation linked to belly fat may also affect your lungs. You could get winded quickly while doing simple activities like climbing stairs. Extra weight can make asthma symptoms and COPD worse.

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) – The build-up of fat in your liver creates scar tissue (a condition known as cirrhosis). This may eventually shut your liver down completely, leading to death. Often these symptoms do not appear until the damage is done.

Osteoarthritis – Extra weight places additional strain on your joints and cartilage creating pain and stiffness, particularly in the knees, hips, and lower back. Excess body fat is also a trigger for inflammation.

Gallstones –Overweight people tend to have more bad cholesterol and triglycerides in their blood which increases the formation of gallstones. Gallstones may damage the gallbladder and necessitate its removal.

Type 2 Diabetes – Being overweight is often caused by a diet high in sugar and carbohydrates. Overtime this results in a condition called insulin resistance. Your body makes insulin to remove the excess sugar from your blood. Due to extended periods of high insulin in your blood your body loses the ability to properly get the glucose out. Sustained high blood sugar can lead to diabetes and leads to trouble with your heart, nerves, eyes, and more. This also creates more inflammation in your body.

Gout – Uric acid builds up in your body forming tiny, sharp crystals that cause pain in your big toe, ankle, or knee. The higher the blood sugar levels and the belly fat, the greater the likelihood of having a gout episode.

High Blood Pressure – The larger your body, the more work your heart has to pump blood to all of your cells. As you gain weight you are creating new fat cells that need blood! The increase in force necessary to distribute the blood pushes on your artery walls damaging them and creating inflammation.

Heart Disease –Diabetes, high blood pressure, high insulin, osteoarthritis, and the related inflammation stresses the arteries making them thick and stiff. Narrow or clogged vessels are unable to get blood efficiently throughout the body. While you may not immediately notice symptoms, over time poor circulation may cause a heart attack, heart failure, or a stroke.

Kidney Disease – The kidneys filter your blood and help control your blood pressure. Fat build up and clogged blood vessels in the kidneys reduce their functionality. This can cause waste to buildup in your body, a dangerous condition. Kidney disease is often closely associated with high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease.

Sleep Apnea – A thick neck from excess fat narrows your airway, making it harder to breathe at night. This causes sleep disturbances such as loud snoring or the cessation of breathing for a short period of time throughout the night. Lack of sleep impacts the body’s ability to repair and being tired can cause cognitive, mood, memory, and heart issues.

Pregnancy Issues – Being overweight increases the likelihood of gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, needing a C-section to give birth, and that your baby may be born too soon, be stillborn, or have brain or spinal cord issues.

Cancer – Some cancers, including breast, prostate, colorectal, endometrial, and kidney are associated with excess estrogen. Fat cells make estrogen.

As we look at the health issues listed above, the statistics associated with being overweight, and the current state of health across the country the only conclusion is that something must be done! Everyone needs to look at themselves in the mirror (literally) and decide if they need to lose weight.

For the past thirteen years Rosen Wellness has helped many clients resolve health issues such as poor digestion, hormone imbalances, headaches, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, rashes, and detoxification. Weight loss frequently occurs as a natural result of improving how the body functions and reducing inflammation. However, addressing and sustaining weight loss of over 10 pounds often provided a challenge.

There are many weight-loss programs available. The truth is that most of them are effective in achieving initial weight loss. But the bottom line is that 95% of the time all the weight lost is gained back. What has been missing was a program that addresses not only the short-term desire for weight loss, but helps the client develop and engage in a new healthier lifestyle for their lifetime. This is the reason we have introduced SHAPE ReClaimed® at Rosen Wellness.

SHAPE ReClaimed® is such a program. It is done in three-phases. During Phase I you will cleanse, detoxify, release excess weight, reduce inflammation, balance brain chemistry, improve immunity and redefine your relationship with food. Phase I is for a minimum of three weeks or until you reach your weight loss goal. In Phase II you will stabilize your brain chemistry and metabolism and learn more about your relationship with food and discover food intolerances. This Phase is critical to your ongoing success and is for three weeks. In Phase III you will utilize the knowledge you have gained from the first two phases and establish healthy, long-term habits – your new lifestyle! Phase III is now how you live your life. Unlike most weight loss programs, SHAPE ReClaimed® is practitioner supervised from start to finish and you will be monitored regularly to support lasting success.

If you are interested in learning more about the SHAPE ReClaimed® program offered at Rosen Wellness please contact us and we will be glad to explain more about this fantastic program and work with you to achieve your goals and transform your health. Glyphosate: The Most Dangerous Substance You May Be Consuming – UPDATE

This article originally appeared in the April of 2015. At the time it was quite controversial. It appeared in our local newspaper the News Graphic and there was a nasty letter from a local farmer saying I was way off base. Since then Monsanto has been purchased by Bayer. You can do an Internet search and find claims (from Bayer) that the EPA says glyphosate does not cause cancer. However, several Courts see it differently. In March a San Francisco court awarded $80 million to a man claiming glyphosate caused his cancer and in May an Oakland court awarded $2 billion to a couple with the same claim.

There are now thousands of lawsuits ongoing in the United States, a class action suit in the United States, and the first lawsuit in Australia was recently filed.

San Francisco story link: https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2019/03/27/monsanto-roundup-cancer-lawsuit-california-man-awarded-80-million/3293824002/

Oakland story link: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jury-awards-couple-2billion-monsanto-roundup-weed-killer-cancer-lawsuit-trial-today-2019-05-13/

Here’s the article from 2015:

Glyphosate. Ever heard of it? Probably not. So let me introduce it to you – it is the active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup®. The more I learn about it, the more I am concerned. The more I learn about it, the more I am convinced that it may be the number one enemy of good health and the main pathway to so many of the modern diseases we now experience. And if nothing else, it is a great reason to eat organic.

The information I am sharing is from highly respected researchers – MIT PhDs. They have conducted their own studies and reported on others that link the increase in the use of glyphosate with the increase in many modern diseases, including celiac disease, gluten intolerance, and cancer. When we understand what glyphosate does in our bodies we see how specific nutrients are depleted and the subsequent negative impact on specific biological processes essential for good health. My purpose here is to provide a summary of the findings. If you want to research this more I suggest you search Stephanie Seneff, PhD.

The article I read focused on celiac disease, its main symptoms, and glyphosate. The main symptoms of celiac disease are: weight loss, diarrhea, chronic fatigue, neurological disorders, anemia, nausea, skin rashes, depression, and nutrient deficiencies. As you know these symptoms are not unique to celiac disease. They are experienced daily by many people and likely share common origins and roots with celiac disease – one of these being glyphosate consumption and exposure.

Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Roundup®. We are told it is not toxic to humans. Yet multiple scientific research studies draw links to obesity, autism, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, infertility, depression, and cancer as well as celiac disease. The bottom line is that the actions of glyphosate in our body have negative impacts on our health.

One of the major signs of celiac disease is damage to the microvilli of the intestine. This prevents proper digestion and assimilation of many vital nutrients and triggers an autoimmune response. A study on fish exposed to glyphosate showed the same defects in the small intestine lining as seen in humans diagnosed with celiac disease.

Now let’s take a look at some of the specific biological process disrupted and nutrients depleted by glyphosate. There are many more than discussed here, but I selected the major ones to support the main point of this article.

Gut bacteria: Glyphosate disrupt our gut bacteria. They inhibit growth of the good bacteria such as Enterococcus, Bifidobacteria, and Lactobacillus; while allowing the growth of pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella and Clostridium difficile (C-Diff). The pathogenic bacteria cause damage to our gut lining and lead to “leaky gut.” Evidence of this has been seen across poultry, cattle, and swine populations. This is why Probiotics are often suggested to be used in cases of celiac disease or other intestinal discomfort.

As a side note, this is how Roundup® kills bugs. It blows their guts up!

CYP enzymes for liver detoxification: CYP enzymes are essential for the detoxification of specific substances in our liver. CYP enzymes are also required to produce bile acids and process cholesterol.  Studies show correlations between liver damage, gall bladder dysfunction, high cholesterol, non-alcoholic fatty liver, kidney damage, pancreatic damage, and esophageal damage connected to glyphosate. In short, when the detoxification process in the liver is compromised it creates the pathways for damage to these other organs.

Nutrient deficiencies: Many nutrient deficiencies are associated with glyphosate.

Cobalamin (B12) deficiency causes elevated levels of homocysteine which is inflammatory in nature. Cobalamin is derived from cobalt which glyphosate is known to chelate (bind with), thus the shortage. Anemia may result from cobalamin deficiencies, but also folate and iron. Glyphosate interferes with iron assimilation as well.

Molybdenum, a trace mineral, is needed for two key enzymes. Sulfite oxidase which converts sulfite to sulfate (a more stable form) and xanthine oxidase which produces uric acid from xanthine and hypoxanthine. Too much sulfite and uric acid leads to oxidative damage and inflammation in the body. Glyphosate interferes with molybdenum assimilation.

Selenium is required for many processes, including thyroid hormone production, immune system functioning, sperm production, and protective against oxidative cellular damage. Glyphosate inhibits selenium uptake into plants, thus limiting its availability in the foods (such as wheat) where it is supposed to be present. Evidence of the association between thyroid disease and thyroid cancer and the use of glyphosate is documented.

Glyphosate has been shown to disrupt the production of tryptophan. Tryptophan is the precursor to serotonin. Serotonin plays many roles among them activating the immune response and inflammation in the gut and mood regulation. Depression is often linked to serotonin shortages.

This is a brief synopsis of one of many articles on the subject of glyphosate. As I stated earlier, the more I read about this herbicide, the more I do believe it is at the source of many of our health problems today. It is not the only cause, but in combination with other factors our bodies our under assault from environmental factors that we have never before experienced as a human race.

The solution to avoiding glyphosate is simple. Eat organic plants and animals. That will greatly decrease your chances for exposure.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Glyphosate deemed “probably carcinogenic.” A working group of experts from 11 countries classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans: in a recent meeting at the International Agency for Research in Cancer (IARC) in Lyon, France. As if we needed to know more!!

Newsletter June 2019: The Joy of Learning

The Joy of Learning

I have mentioned in past newsletters how much I enjoy learning new information and bringing it to the practice to share with you. In May I had the opportunity to attend the Whole Foods Nutrition Conference in Detroit, Michigan where three of my favorite presenters were offering their latest discoveries. What makes these three so special is that they are internationally renowned clinicians. They are not talking theory; they are sharing actual experience. I have spoken of these exceptional practitioners in prior newsletters: Dr. Davis Brockenshire, Dr. Stuart White, and Dr. Randy Tent.

These conferences are very inspirational, hearing the amazing healing stories of real people. This is what makes this work so rewarding which is why I like to share my client stories with you each month.

Another great way to learn is to read books! I have read several very interesting books over the past few months and I wanted to share what I have learned.

June Open House

There will be an Open House on Thursday, June 20 at 7:15 at the office. More detailed information will be emailed next week. The topics will be: 1) Highlights from three of the books alluded to above; and 2) An introduction to three new exciting products and services we will be offering. See below for more details on the new products and services.

The three books we will discuss are: Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams by Matthew Walker, PhD, I Used to Have Cancer: How I Found My Own Way Back to Health by James Templeton, and How to End the Autism Epidemic by J.B. Handley. As a special treat James Templeton will be live with us for part of the Open House to hear more of his inspirational story. You can find more information about all the books on Amazon.

Why Do Itch All Over? – Another Interesting Client Case Resolved

“Hi Bernie, just wanted to tell you the itching is pretty much gone. You were right, it just took time. I don’t think any doctor would have figured out that it was the chemicals. I really appreciate you…thanks again.” F.C.

This client is a cashier in a grocery store. She had chemical toxicity from handing out receipts to each customer!
